Italy 2002; 23 min.
Giuliana Dea and her collaborators have created a documentary
about a film taht is already more than fifty years old. A B/W film telling a
beautiful and bitter story, speaking of a Milan no more existing. They have
realised a documentary on one of the masterworks of Italian cinema, that
Miracolo a Milano for which De Sica won the Golden Palm at the
Cannes Festival.
The film presents sequences of the movie, based on the novel Totò
il buono by Cesare Zavattini, interspersed with interviews to the
witnesses of that set (from the female star Brunella Bovo, to the film critic
Lorenzo Pellizzari) which for some time allowed Milan to dream of stealing
a little limelight of the cinema world away from Rome.
Between the real homeless people who took part in the movie as extras and a
city still wounded by the war bombings, the author of this documentary build
a path through the memory of a black and white cinema which gets new colors
in the reconstruction of a society and a culture which are more and
more remote.
