Specchi (Mirrors) by Virginia Barrett |
||
|
Italy 2003; 12 min.
The story of Specchi is simple, yet it represents in quite realistic
terms the situation that may develop in a family with two sons, one of which suffering
from Down syndrome. Marzio is athletic, nice-looking, with a young girlfiend.
Luca, looked after by parents giving him great affection and dedition,
becomes aware of his own condition and reacts by running away from all the
mirrors inesorably reflecting a completely different image from his brother's.
Luca's flight from the sad reality haunting him comes to an end when he meets Lisa,
a girl also suffering from the same syndrome. The two young people instinctively
form a bond and, keeping each other's hands, walk away towards their own destiny.

About the Director:
Born in Foggia, from a German father and Italian
mother. She can be defined, with a cliché, a complete
actress. She is diplomed in piano playing, a mezzo-soprano, an actress
in many musicals, and with several roles in cinema, television and advertisement.
She recently starred in theatre with Lando Buzzanca in the show La
zia di Carlo (Carlo's Aunt) by Brandon Thomas, and she is
well known to the TV audience as Laura Berni (a tormented character of
the Canale 5 soap opera Vivere). She wrote Arpeggi
erotici (Erotic Arpeggios), a collection of erotic poetry which
has been the basis of a theatrical show and has convinced Tinto Brass
into offering her the role of Frau Bertha in his latest film, Fallo!.
A pièce about Marlene Dietrich, actress by whom she has always
been strongly inspired in her performances, will be produced internationally
later this year. She is currently shooting her feature film Madonna
delle donne (Our Lady of Women). |
