additional "legal" moves for nidoking/clefable

my apologies to those who are sensitive regarding bumping old topics, posting in a dead forum, bringing up possibly old news or just talking about old-ass games in general. anyway, in red/blue (but not yellow) nidoking can be taught hypnosis or psychic by exploiting a pokeglitch. likewise clefairy/clefable can learn hypnosis, surf or fissure.

nidoking:
use the mew (ditto) glitch with a special of 198. a glitchy pokemon will pop up, so capture it with a poke ball. it'll have pokedex entry #62 and sport mostly the same characteristics as poliwrath by knowing hypnosis, water gun, double slap and body slam. you can teach it psychic using the appropriate TM, then go ahead and rare candy it up to level 18. it will then do a double-evolution, first into clefairy, then into nidoking.

clefairy/clefable:
use the mew glitch to catch pokeglitch #198 just as before. you can teach it surf or fissure using the appropriate HM/TM. when it gets to level 18, it will evolve into clefairy and immediately try to evolve into nidoking. press the b button to terminate the second evolution and you'll end up with a clefairy, which you can of course later evolve into clefable using a moon stone.

this also adds some other (mostly unhelpful) attacks such as double slap, horn attack, earthquake and metronome. with enough rare candies and a great deal of patience to repeatedly cancel evolution, you can enable more moves such as bind and recover. any thoughts? comments on the how useful/useless this might be?

no harm done!

Anyway, I believe R/B/G/Y was filled with bugs/glitches...

I'm not gonna be tempted to do this though, since it can corrupt my save-file.

Glitched moves are not legal moves.

um yes, hence notice my use of quotation marks around the word legal. by the same token, pokemon trained using duplicated rare candies/TMs/PP-UPs, mews caught within the game, and cloned pokemon are not legal either. however, i believe players around here generally still consider such catching/training practices a step up in legitimacy compared to gamesharking, arguably because glitches are something programmed into the game itself.

magmar, i'll post some screenshots shortly.

2 questions when you look at the stat screen or send it out does it mess up your save like with the MissingNO. Also where in RBY can you find a pokemon with 198 special to find.

No, Clefable never learns those attacks. They are not designed to learn them. Therefore, illegal. Legal doesn't mean you got it the old fashioned way. If you CAN get it the old fashioned way, it's legal. I.e sharking a Nidoking with Surf is legal as he can get Surf the natural way.

The dex entry is also most likely fake. Besides, I believe Gyarados is 23 feet and 880lbs.

That is incorrect, Mike.

Gyarados is 21 feet and weighs 518lbs.

Remember "Oakmon" anyone?

Gyarados's Stats with Oak sprites.

Amusing.

yeah unfortunately all such pokeglitches are just like missingno. and they will put garbage in your hall-of-fame at the very least.

there aren't any naturally occurring pokemon in RBY with a special that high, except for mewtwo in the unknown dungeon, whose special is a bit higher. thus you need to apply the ditto trick to catch pokeglitch #198.

Does the Mew trick mess up your hall of fame. Only if you capture mew that is.

oh, nope the mew trick is safe under normal circumstances. it doesn't create glitchy graphics or mess with other sensitive parts of the game if you use it for catching mew or any of the 151 standard pokemon. only missingno., pokeglitch #198, and missingno.'s various other cousins have the bad side effects.
