Photoblog
February 6th, 2009I’ve written an entry in a photoblog that Vicky and I are working on. Find it at http://cupofdirt.wordpress.com
Welcome to my blog, a smattering of my thoughts, shared links, public service announcements, and various ramblings. Read and enjoy at your own risk! :)
I’ve written an entry in a photoblog that Vicky and I are working on. Find it at http://cupofdirt.wordpress.com
I feel like I started this new blog and then immediately stopped writing in it. Sometimes I feel like blogging, or I see something I want to blog about, but I just don’t get around to it, or I just find something else to do. Ok, well here’s my attempt at getting back on track. I’ll try and write something once a week or something…
See more after the jump!
I think I’ve gotten too old to go camp out in line for Black Friday deals, but Amazon.com is doing their vote-for-a-deal thing again. Basically you vote on a deal and they enter you into a drawing to receive that deal on a particular day. Just go to the site, you’ll figure it out. Good luck!
Vicky recently introduced me to Google’s Reader app. If you don’t know what it is, it’s a web application that aggregates RSS feeds and presents them in one simple, easy-to-read interface. You can “subscribe” to as many sites as you like, provided they have feeds, and when new posts are created, they are added to the Reader app. This saves a ton of time because you don’t have to navigate to each of your favorite blogs, news sites, deal sites, etc. to check whether or not they’ve updated their content. In other words, it saves you time while procrastinating!
Here are some of the sites I’ve subscribed to…
Hi everyone! This is my new blog. Xanga and its eProps, Minis and whatnot got a little too cluttering for my tastes. Does this look like wordpress to you? That’s because it is — I just installed it onto my Berkeley OCF webserver and it’s being hosted by my alma mater instead of wordpress.com.
I picked WordPress because…
(a) The essential features are easy to use
(b) It’s in PHP, and I know PHP (I feel like all I can do nowadays is PHP and C. Sad)
(c) Someone owns jeffyin.blogspot.com! Boo
(d) There’s an iPhone app for WP
And I chose to host it on my OCF account instead of WordPress.com because…
(a) I own my own domain, jeffyin.com, and it was already mapped to my OCF account.
(b) Normal blogs hosted on wordpress.com are more restrictive and don’t allow you to put in custom plug-ins.
(c) I can add AdSense here (sorry folks, but it’s a good way to earn some cash)
I’m planning on starting up a photoblog too, but I think I’ll need a camera first. (My previous one was stolen from my apartment last year, and the one before that, also stolen… so you can imagine why I’m hesitant to buy cameras. That, and of course I’m trying to save up for a wedding 15 months from now. I’ll just borrow Vicky’s Canon S3 for the time being.) I’m inspired by my friend Alex, who started a blog with three of his friends, and they take one picture a day. Vicky and I want to try that out too, and hopefully it will help open my eyes to the world around me and become a better photographer.
The caveat with hosting my site here is that I can’t host the photos on my OCF account, as I only get 400MB of space. Vicky, however, has a flickr pro account, so I figure we’ll use that.
So.. there’s much to look forward to in my online life!
