2000.01.29 - "The Apartment"

Dating back to the early days of Fall 1999, in mid-August when Ted first moved in to this house on Scenic & Rose, we had vowed to actually look for housing for the 2000-2001 school year, and not just go with something that was easy. Back in the day when we signed our lives away in blood to live in this pink house, we didn't realize just how horrible that hill really was....both ways. And so looking to better our situation for our fourth year at Cal, we decided it'd be best to start looking for housing early - during Christmas break. Yeah, we're pressimistic like that.

So during break, I get news that Ted and his parents had found a place considerably closer to campus - in fact, just off the corner of campus where Barker Hall is. Not bad...and thus ended the housing search which never really started. Impatience can pay off at times, I guess. And as soon as I saw the place - it was clean, there was carpet on the floor, and it didn't smell!!! - I knew that it'd be awesome.

And here we have a bunch of us (Ted's mom, Ted, Ted's dad, Larry, and Tracy trying to blur the shot) in the empty living room while showing off the place. Big, open, empty, and no stinky dog hair on the ground...

And so this place consists of only one room, per se, but there's this bigass loft above everything else. And that thing's four times the area of my current room, and has its own closet. The closet is bigger than my room now. The only downside: the ceiling it a little low, but no biggie; this is one place where I'm really glad that I'm not as tall as I wish I were. So to give an illusion of privacy, there's a spiffy looking screen up on the loft which is quite reminiscent of some sort of backdrop for portraits. And with the correct lighting, you can get some pretty weird looking shadow things...

Here, we have larry stripping (this was taken from downstairs)

And so for this semester, while Ted and I wait out our contracts at the pink house where the dsl exists, Tracy and Larry are living there. Moving stuff in with them was fun, tiring, and tiring. Did I mention tiring?

Here are two more shots: In the first, Ted and Larry figure out how to put a lamp together. There wasn't a light bulb involved, so for now, we still don't know how many science majors it takes to screw one in. Underneath, we have Ted in a box. As soon as he heard that Tracy wanted help moving her bed around, he jumped in there and hid.

Anyhow, that's about it. It's a nice spiffified place close to campus, and there's even Cable TV there (ESPN....drool drool...). Now once we get the dsl moved over there, it'll be that much better...

Here's the view from the living room....oooh...a view....drool drool

And here we have the balcony/walkway outside...
