New members can try out the club free for two classes.

Head Instructor: Sensei Hidetaka Abe
Sensei Hidetaka Abe is a seventh degree black belt in karate and a
second degree black belt in judo. He has been studying martial arts
since he was 13 years old, and at Meiji University in Tokyo, he
studied Karate under Master Ohtsuka. In 1967, after he
graduated from college and coached a year at Meiji, he came to
Berkeley and began teaching the UC Karate Club. He continues to do so today.

Michael Couzens
Michael is a 2nd degree black belt who has been training since 1997 and teaching since 2007.
Hsien-Ching Kao
Hsien-Ching is a 2nd degree black belt in Shoto-kan and has been training since 2009 with the UC Berkeley Karate Club.
Eugene Malikin
Eugene is a 3rd degree black belt who has been training since 1995.

On occasion the club has special guests from
Japan who visit and hold special training sessions. The club also has
a large group of senior black belts who stop by on occasion to teach class.
