Background:

Sunny Side Express is an idea I thought up while bicycling around Berkeley and Oakland. Or maybe it was while commuting to work again on BART. I can't remember anymore. I know I won't be rich charging no fares, and having it be "tips only," but I want to be the best. Insurance isn't free. This is my way of making a difference. I am my own non-profit in spirit.

It all seems like a logical extension of walking backward through human evolution: from a gas car and rice rocketing, to biodiesel, and now to a bicycle pedicab. I've always wanted to make shoes out of old car tires (still have a tire on the balcony) but bicycling has always felt so free and easy to me.

I love bicycles and bicycling and trains. I get this from living in Japan, and having subjected myself to the car-based lifestyle both here and there. Better bicycling and public mass transit (vs car mass transit) can work here too.

In Thailand, I rode in gas-powered two-stroke engine Tuk-Tuks. They were noisy and clattery, and even seemed a bit dangerous at times in downtown Bangkok in the rain and multitudinous car expressways. But it seemed better. Small is good.

I rode a pedicab in NYC. I rode a horse carriage. They were both good.
