Oakland Pedicab BETA: STATUS Page

Sunny Side Express STATUS

2/23/09: Almost Ready to Launch
I've put in the equipment that broke down so that the pedicab works fine now. Just needs night-time safety lighting and cleaning. Need to fill out more paperwork too. Meanwhile, the insurance I paid for is just sitting around doing nothing.

12/8/08:
Not much going on this week, as we are busy moving to new digs. However, check out Triple Pundit's review of Drunk Eco Cabs.
11/10/08: Great weather, bike still under the weather

I am having repairs made to the bike right now down at TipTop Bike Shop on Telegraph. Just basics for now: truing the front wheel, adjusting the chain, adding grease.

We have insurance! As of today. Still working on other business paperwork. Have contacted City of Berkeley and City of Oakland. Back to work...

10/30/2008: Progress Report
Wow, it's been almost a year (or more) since I had this idea. Since then, I received requests for ad space on the (non-existent) pedicab and a request to work a wedding for bicycle enthusiasts, which I appreciated but had to refuse. The good news is, we have a pedicab. The other good news -- for California -- is that it's raining. As for carting people around in an open-air bicycle taxi, that's another matter. It will stop raining soon though.

There are a few things we need to do before starting our service, but it will start this year, and probably in November. If you want to pedal or ride, or commission the pedicab for a special event, please get in touch by email. The 1-year plan is to provide service in Berkeley and Oakland. We will be fully insured up to two million dollars. Regular rides on city streets in downtown Berkeley, North Oakland and around Lake Merrit will be free.

Here's death PediCab for Craig Newmark (video of craiglist's craig rolling around denver in a pedicab).

Cheers,
Ken
