8 Killed in Laos Plane Crash
VIENTIANE, Laos (AP) — A Laotian airliner crashed into a mountain, killing eight of the 15 people on board, including foreigners, officials said Friday. (dated 20 Oct. 2000)

• Khen (34KB): The Khen is featured in Lao traditional orchestras, and used as a solo instrument. The khen can be difficult to master because the performer must produce a continuous melody by exhaling and inhaling without catching his or her breath.

• Lam Nyao & Tuei (847KB): This song is about a middle-aged man's torn fellings - he has his own family and has also fallen in love with a young woman. In the first lam, the man tells the girl that he will remain with his wife and their love cannot be. He wishes her happiness. In the second lam, the man persuades the girl to go with him,and endure a hard life together.
