bg and I had dinner at Kirala. We liked their cook food but the sashimi wasn't very fresh. The service was really good though and we'll go back again sans sashimi.

We met up with Bryce and Rachel at Barneys and had dinner. Afterwards, we dropped them off at the Radiohead concert and bummed around at A Cuppa Tea. We met up with Michael at some other PWC'ers at Thallasa for a game of pool. On our way home, bg scared some high school kids that were making out in their car.

bg and I have heard lots about Patxi's from Vij who considers himself a pizza expert. One time, Vij and his sister found a secret recipe for a Zachary's pizza and made it at home. The Chicago style pizza is very good and filling but the venue is a bit loud. You have to shout in order to be heard. Read about bg's review here.

Finally, no more checks to the UC Regents. We all went to Windy's graduation today in Santa Cruz where we got to bake in the sun. Crissy and I made a bouquet with two dozen roses with pink, orange, and yellow roses. I helped cut out the tulle and found pretty meshy purple fabric. Aren't they pretty? Afterwards we had some early dinner at Darda.

Mmm, I've been eating a lot of pork lately. Anyway, we made grilled pork ribs that we boiled in beer first. The bbq sauce was maybe a little too tangy. We'll try something not from a bottle next time. Afterwards, we had dessert at Ghiradelli with bg's parents. Btw, they have a Chocolate Festival on September 9 - 10, so go if you're a chocolate fiend.

I watched the Hell's Kitchen Dance which featured Mikhail Baryshnikov. He's a really good dancer and I feel privileged to actually get a chance to see him perform. This performance was definitely one of my favorites so far in Berkeley. Baryshnikov is a famous dancer but many recognize him as Carrie's Russian bf on Sex and the City.

But the exciting news is that Crissy is finally back in California after studying in Taiwan for a year. Woot!

I went to a wedding reception with bg at Ming's in Palo Alto. It was for one of his family friends. The two guests next to me were ethnically Chinese but grew up in the Philippines. The crazy thing was they knew how to speak Fujianese which is really similar to Taiwanese.

Katherine and I met up for some coffee and did a quick catch up while I waited for bg. She's living in a nice area in Foster City and Internet marketing. Afterwards, bg and I went to BFD and saw the following bands:

Echo & The Bunnymen
Every Move A Picture
Franz Ferdinand
Hard-Fi
HIM
Panic! At The Disco
Push To Talk
She Wants Revenge
Street To Nowhere
The Herms
Yeah, Yeah Yeahs
Yellowcard

I liked Every Move A Picture and Franz Ferdinand the best and bg liked She Wants Revenge and Yellowcard. We had dinner afterwards at Macaroni Grill which wasn't very good.

bg and I cooked apple pork chops from Whole Foods and I made ravioli soup which was a disturbing pink color (mixing sour cream and tomato soup). We watched Fever Pitch and bg said the movie was really a chick flick masquerading as a guy flick.

I still need to try beignets which are doughnut-like fritters and originate from New Orleans. Here's more about them.

I watched Spanglish and if you want to make the yummy sandwich featured in the movie here's the recipe. Adam Sandler played a chef in the movie and Thomas Keller the famous chef from The French Laundry served as a consultant. Here's another reference of the yummy sandwich. Paz Vega is really pretty.

I had a picnic in Golden Gate Park near the baseball fields with Esther and Michael who was in town for the weekend. Michael is done with his graduate work at UCLA and is still teaching in LA. Later, bg and I dropped by Union Square and finally got to try Beard Papa's. I was kinda disappointed, sigh too much hype; I remember them being tastier in NYC.

Ben was in town so I met up with him and some other Bappers at Thirsty Bear. I got a chance to catch up with a few people; so many people leaving for graduate school. Next I had a Cityspan dinner at MoMo's. The food was very delish but bg got food poisoning so don't get their shrimp. I got a grilled pork chop with cheddar grits and an apple-cherry compote which I was very happy with. I think it was my first time eating grits. Afterwards we had drinks at the 21st Amendment and Bosun was showing me all their cool beer t-shirts like the Watermelon Wheat.
