I did some more urban hiking around SF today and was excited to explore new neighborhoods recommended by some SF guidebooks I borrowed from the library. I also got a chance to walk on the Golden Gate Bridge and visit the Palace of Fine Arts and see the new shiny orange dome. I also bought two pair of pants from Benetton.

I used always order this cold noodle dish back in my undergrad days. Now, that it's almost summer, the weather has triggered my cravings for it. After chatting with some friends, I've narrowed it down to what the dish was made up of. It's cold noodles with shredded chicken, eggs, carrots, cucumbers, and bean sprouts. Some people add cabbage, celery, or ham. The sauce is made up of peanut butter, soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, vinegar, and garlic.

Crissy and I visited Fourth Street in Berkeley, an upscale shopping area near the Berkeley Marina. We bought a scone from Bette's-To-Go and decided to try Bette's Ocean View Diner another time. Crissy loves purchasing makeup and chatted with the staff at the MAC store while I window shopped at Anthropologie for some inspiration. I like the tie front sweaters and I'm pondering on doing some simple embroidery and adding simple patches for one of my cardigans. Afterwards, we order French takeout from Gregoires and were very pleased with the dishes. I recommend it and the chef is really friendly.

Sigh, we had a good-bye dinner at Tomodachi Sushi Bistro for Louise. I never realized that none of us really drink alcohol so it took four of us to finish a tropical mixed drink. It took us so long to finish it that the bartender walked by and asked us if there was something wrong with the drink. Heehee, funny, though maybe if we said something we could've gotten a free drink. =p Anyway, if you visit, I recommend the Agedashi Tofu, Sea Bass Miso Yaki, and Grilled Tuna Steak. I like this place because the menu is more varied that your typical Japanese restaurant that seems to be limited to sushi, tempera, and some sort of teriyaki meat.

Today, I took Louise around Berkeley. I showed her Normandy Towers on North Side, the Rose Garden, the installation at Heart Mining Building and Doe Library, and the UC Botanical Gardens. We had lunch at Cheeseboard and the pizza was really flavorful that day. =d

I went to the Kaboom Concert with Yusing and watched the Wallflowers perform. The fireworks show after the concert was fabulous and probably one of the best fireworks show I've ever seen. Mark said he could watchthe entire show from his apartment, ah one of the joys of living in SOMA.

Here's an interesting article from SFGate about SF architecture and French influences.

Since Louise is moving back to socal soon, I played SF tour guide and we walked around Coit Tower, Lombard Street, Union Street, Chestnut Street, the Haight, Japantown, and the Yerba Buena Gardens. I bought cute shoelaces with ducks on them for Crissy in the Haight. We had lunch at Judy's on Chestnut and snacked on ice cream crepes at Genki in the Richmond.

My parents just returned from their Asia trip and they bought the green tea mochis that were filled with sweet cream. They were so soft and practically melted in your mouth.

Katie, Louise, Sandy, and I decided to walk Bay to Breakers. I ran into lots of people there; I saw Jean, Nancy, Shawna, and Yusing who was trying to find his friends who were all dressed up as pirates. Sandy and Steve went to a wedding the day before and the wedding party ran the race in their formal wear, very cute. Maybe because we started later but I didn't see as many people dressed up in costumes compared to last year. Anyway, the race is a fun, unique SF thing to do. Along the way, we passed the building with hanging furniture, random naked people, bison, a huge windmill, and the Pacific Ocean. We finished the race in about 2 hours and 50 minutes. Afterwards, we hate a late lunch at D & A Cafe in the Richmond, lots of yummy Chinese food.

Cami was in town and a bunch of us gathered at La Note for some yummy brunch. They have delicious raspberry preserves and I ordered their emmental cheese omelette. It was good seeing Albert, Jean, and Shawna. Cami is going to be working DC for a few years so be sure to visit her if you're in the area. Afterwards, Shawna and I went shopping at Nordstrom Rack. Heehee, it's funny how we have to justify our purchases and convince ourselves that we really need this new bag, shoe, or clothing item. Gah, I've been shopping too much.

It's nice to know my eyes are finally stable. I'm not going blind anymore! =p
