I always disliked IEEE and other overgeneralized acronym-associations that run a frigging mafia in academia.
* IEEE didn’t allow open access to the proceedings (Go! Go! Open Access Journals!)
* they charged a huge overhead that wasn’t worth the benefits
* Coordinating with IEEE increased rather than decreased the administrative burden on the organizers
Seriously, IEEE is a nonprofit organization with $330 Million in profits 2.
