PROFILE
Mark Fathi Massoud is a Postdoctoral Fellow at Stanford
University, in the
Center
on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law. A member of the California Bar,
he received
his J.D. and Ph.D. in Jurisprudence and Social Policy from the
University of
California, Berkeley, School of Law.
At Stanford, Massoud is writing a book manuscript,
Rights, Law, and Development in
Sudan, based on extensive field research. The work builds
on
the interdisciplinary tradition of law and
society to analyze the development of law in volatile states rife with
violent conflict.
Massoud has published in academic journals
and national newspapers. His most recent paper, "Myth Making and the
Collision of Rights in Sudan," was the Law and Society
Association's 2008 best graduate student paper. An avid
writer, he
also received U.C. Berkeley's
Eisner Prize in Literature (the university's highest achievement in
creative writing) and the
Irving Prize in American Wit and
Humor.
