Acid Storm
Because of a hard drive failure, all my backgrounds, base tech images and other source materials were wiped out. Combined with a lack of new, compelling characters for new techs (Rosanna? Glit?), I didn't really feel like starting all over from scratch. However, Botch asked me to make some custom techs for him, so I decided to start again. I actually scanned my own techs at maximum quality and made a new Decepticon template. It is slightly lighter than my other techs, but like I've said before, G1 techs are wildly inconsistent in many different ways. However, I still didn't feel like making new techs until I got an email from Steven Bosco, a long time fan asking if I was going to update my site, and I got off my ass and started work here.
Acid Storm is a release from Hasbro's Universe line, AKA Classics 2.0, a series that basically remakes G1 characters in new molds. This series is one of my favorites and continues the design aesthetic from previous years like Energon while Animated and the Movie lines go in opposite directions. He is a yet another repaint of the Seekers and has roots in the G1 cartoon. I like the name, color scheme, and characterization. The image is edited from Starscream's box art and it took me roughly 8 hours to match all the greens, to try and get that weird greyish blue, and to add details that basically disappear when you shrink it down to tech size. Acid Storm has much less detail than Starscream since he has no stickers, and I hesitated on whether or not to color in Starscream's stickers in an "Acid Storm" scheme. I decided to try and keep him consistent with the toy and the new package art. I could go on about all the small decisions, but I will end by saying that I actually thought about keeping the eye color yellow instead of red. I loved trying to add the asymmetric color scheme despite finding it strange that Acid Storm has a camouflage inspired scheme that is more associated with attack aircraft than with cloud seeders.
The tech description is slightly edited from the original and I made up the saying with apologies to Benjamin Franklin. I also made up the function to link him somewhat to Sunstorm and keep it consistent with the other seekers.
