Melbourne is a really unique, really cool place. It has a very strong European influence (classical buildings, outdoor cafe's) blended with an art-deco modern feel. Here we are at a fountain in downtown.
This is us eating atop the tallest hotel in the southern hemisphere. Luckily we were in Melbourne during their annual Food and Wine Festival (a festival with two of my favorite things!)
A few hours outside of Melbourne is a place called Port Phillip Island. Here, every night for thousands of years, a ton of penguins cross the beach after sunset. They fish all day in the ocean, then cross the beach at night to return to their burrows and feed their children. This is a really cool thing to watch. You get to sit right next to them...
We spent a full day on a trip down Great Ocean Road, which is a lengthy road that goes along the southern tip of Australia. There are some amazing sights on this trip. Here is a wild koala we found in a tree overlooking the ocean.
The 12 Apostles are shown below. These are huge rock formations that are constantly changing because the waves slowly but surely break the limestone cliffs that border the ocean. Right now there are 9 "apostles", but more will form when the tide moves in, and more will be reduced when the ones you see here fall apart.
