Phase I: Thursday, 2007 November 29 Phase II: February 7, 2008 6:30-8 p.m. in C110 Haas School of Business Berkeley Nanotechnology Club Presents: Entrepreneurship in NanotechnologyJoin us on Thursday, February 7 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in C110 Haas School of Business for an exciting discussion of entrepreneurship in nanotechnology. The evening includes a presentation about strategies for dealing with and getting good investors for start-ups by John Gale, president of Taligo, LLC, and a panel from Haas which will answer questions about start-ups at Berkeley. John Gale's experience includes sourcing and evaluating corporate development deals for NEC Semiconductor, consultant to Photonic Power Systems, and numerous leadership positions in companies and within Silicon Valley organizations. Also, the winners of the Berkeley Nano Opportunity Challenge will give their pitch, followed by Q&A and panel commentary. This is a great way to meet other science and business students who are interested in nanotechnology at Berkeley and learn lots about the start-up environment for nanotech! 106 Moffitt Library, UC Berkeley Pizza and refreshments provided !! We had more than 300 attendees from various universities, labs, governmental organizations and industry. Selected forum presentations are online, with other presentions and forum videos to follow. The 2007 Nanotechnology forum featured panels on Nano-Photonics, Education in Nanotechnology, Environmental and Health Issues, as well as distinguished speakers including

Just curious about the business of nanotechnology? Please join us for a Business and Nanotech Mini-Symposium, featuring Professor Drew Isaacs (of the Haas School of Business), Adam Mendelsohn (student and entrepreneur behind Nano Precision Medical, which won the Berkeley Business Plan competition, and several others) and several representatives from local nanotechnology-related companies. Our panelists will discuss the state of nanotechnology in the business world, give an overview of student entrepreneurship in nanotechnology, and discuss opportunities in industry. After the talks, there will be networking and discussion time over pizza. The 2004 edition of the Berkeley Nanotechnology Forum on Saturday, May 1st at UC Berkeley has been a great success! This event gathered more than 340 attendees who heard prominent speakers and panelists, including Dr. Meyyappan (NASA Ames), Dr. Coufal (IBM Almaden) and Dr. Alivisatos (UC Berkeley, LBNL), share their views on near-term entrepreneurial and career opportunities in nanotechnologies.
Berkeley Nano Opportunity Challenge 2005 brought together scientists, engineers, and business students to evaluate potential applications and commercial opportunities for ideas and innovations in Nanotechnology, Microsystems, and related areas. Although in its first year, the competition received many high quality proposals from UC Berkeley, Stanford, and Lawrence Berkeley National Lab.
