Welcome, Guest. ![]() 60 Evans Hall Phase I: November 14th 2006, 6:30pm to 8:00pm UC Berkeley Berkeley Nano Opportunity Challenge 2006 brings together scientists, engineers, and business students to evaluate potential applications and commercial opportunities for ideas and innovations in Nanotechnology and related areas. Last years winner of the competition went on to start a company called Harmonic Devices Inc. www.harmonicdevices.com . Encouraged by the success of BNOC 2005, BNC has decided to make this into an annual event on Berkeley campus, with plans to proactively solicit proposals from all across Bay Area. Details of the event The competition will be held in two rounds: Phase I (Nov 16, 2006): Ten short listed teams of scientists and engineers will present their innovations to a panel of judges comprising of distinguished technologists from industry and academia. Cash prize of $500 will be awarded to each of the five winners Phase I Winners Ultra-fast, ultra-compact all optical network components on photonic crystal chips Ilya Fushman, Dirk Englund, Andrei Faraon, Bryan Ellis **Affordable, Multiplexed, Versatile Chemical Sensor-Receptor for Explosive & Small Molecules Detection Digvijay Raorane, Shawn Lim, Justyn Jaworski **Microscanner Technology for Low-Cost Displays and Biomedical Applications David Garmire, Hyuck Choo World’s fastest modulation rate laser Hatice Altug, Dirk Englund **Drug Eluting Nanostructured Coatings for Biomedical Applications Ketul Popat, Sarah Tao ** Indicates will proceed to Phase II. Phase II (Feb 13, 2007): Five of these ten teams will participate in a Business Challenge round where they work with business students to prepare and present a business case for commercialization of their innovations to a panel of VC's and entrepreneurs. First prize $1000 and second prize $500. Popat, Sarah Tao Phase III (March, 2007): The winners of Phase II will get a direct entry into the semifinals of UC Berkeley's business plan competition. A maximum of 4 members are allowed per team. Deadline The deadline to submit the abstracts is Nov. 1st 2006 .
