Hello! My name is Tiffany and I am a 4th year Public Health major. During my first years at Cal I explored practically every health career by volunteering and participating in a variety of activities in Berkeley. Thankfully I discovered Nursing and all the wonderful opportunities it has. I am currently applying to Master Entry Programs and am very excited to get started! I am planning to specialize in Adult Care and Gerontology with a focus on education. I would love to meet you all and share details about the application process and why Nursing is one of the most worthwhile professions. See you at the meetings!

Hi there! I am currently a forth year Nutritional Sciences major at Cal. Over the past few years I have had several experiences with professionals in healthcare and Nurse Practitioners really caught my attention. My goal is to take a year off and during the time apply to Masters Entry Level programs in Nursing. The ideology and the theory of Nursing have really caught my attention because of its focus on holistic patient care. However, I am still undecided about my specialty, but as a Nutritional Sciences major, I have a keen interest in incorporating Nutrition education into my practice seeing that it is such a vital part of our health. Come learn more about Nursing at our Pre-Nursing Society meetings we will help you explore all the different avenues in healthcare and provide you with one of a kind opportunities to work with professionals in the Bay Area. Figuring out career goals and opportunities takes a great deal of time and research, but once you do it’s a great and exciting feeling!!!

Hi everyone! My name is Joan and I am a 5th year majoring in chemical biology (ya, I know I am old). This is actually my last semester at Cal and I really hope that I could enjoy this last semester before I go into the real world. My plan for now is to find a job before I apply to nursing school next Fall. I really want to become a nurse midwife, as I am currently a labor coach which allows me to see a lot of amazing labor process. Please come to check out our PNS meetings as we have too much information to share with you all! Good luck! =)

My name is Shomaila Hafeez and I am a third year here at Cal. I am currently a Social Welfare major, hoping to double in Public Health. I am currently involved with the Pre-Nursing Society Public Relations team because I hope that after getting my B.A. degree I can go onto graduate school and pursue a career in Nursing. At the moment I am looking at the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs available in the Bay Area. Although I am still uncertain about which field within nursing I should pursue, considering the fact that there are so many different opportunities available in the field, I know that I would like to continue learning more about the field. This is one of the reasons that I chose nursing, because it is so broad and it gives you so many choices to choose from.

I'm currently a fourth year, majoring in Molecular and Cell Biology (emphasizing in Cell and Developmental Biology), and minoring in Chinese. I was an intended Computer Science major when I entered Cal as a freshman, and nursing was something I had never thought about doing until I started to volunteer at clincs and hospitals. I realized I wanted to work in a hospital or clinical setting where I could provide primary care, prescribe medicine, and educate people about disease prevention. Right now, I am in the process of applying to Nursing School and finishing up my nursing prerequisites. I am applying for the accelerated Master's of Science in Nursing for Family Nurse Practitioner. It's a long and tedious application procedure, and support for pre-nursing students at Cal is limited. By joining the Pre-Nursing Society, I hope to increase students' awareness of nursing careers in today's society, as well as assist those who will be applying to Nursing School.

Year: Junior
Major: Intended Public Health
Future Goals: NP Pediatrics (not definite but thinking about it)
Why I chose nursing: Kids make me smile and I want to be able to reciprocate that. Nurses are more personable. They spend more time with patients, rather than doctors who are in and out seeing patient after patient. Nurses have the opportunity to get to know patients more, provide more comfort, and offer more advice. Plus, it's a career in high demand and with a good salary!
