Prerequisite Courses for Nursing School

Every nursing school requires a different set of prerequisite courses upon entering their program. But the majority of schools require similar courses. For example, to list a few:

English Composition
Introductory Statistics
Life Span Psychology (Human Developmental)
Human Anatomy with Lab*
Human Physiology with Lab*
Microbiology with Lab
Introductory Nutritional Science

*Keep in mind that the Anatomy and Physiology courses must be HUMAN, and not animal or cell anatomy/physiology.

We have compiled a detailed list of general prerequisites for most nursing schools and the corresponding courses you can take at U.C. Berkeley:

GENERAL PREREQUISITES

Prerequisite Courses that are not offered at U.C. Berkeley:
You will need to take some courses at a community college, i.e. Life Span (Human Developmental) Psychology. We know Berkeley City College (formerly known as Vista Community College) offers night classes on the U.C. Berkeley campus.

Satisfy the number of credits of each course:
Make sure each prerequisite you have taken, or will be taking, satisfies the number of credits the school requires for that particular course.

Organizing what prerequisites to take:
When choosing your schools, it is highly recommended that you make an organized chart of what prerequisites are required for each school, just so that you can keep track of what you still have to take and what you've already taken.

Again, every school differs in their set of prerequisites. Some schools may require a Theology class or an Ethics class. So look out! It all depends on the school. So check out each school's website and find out exactly what they need you to take.
