Ground Zero

1988 *

I see you shining in the distance
in the darkness all alone
Your tears are made of ice
and your heart is made of stone
You look a whole lot like a girl I used to know
A very long time ago

I saw your picture in the paper the other day
You still looked the same
You hadn't changed in any way
But I don't know what's happened,
Don't know what to do,
Because I don't, I don't remember you

So hold me in the morning
You know i ain't no hero
And there ain't no where to run to
Cause everywhere's ground zero
ground zero
ground zero
ground zero....

"The light is tearing me to pieces."

Cog

1995

It's so rhetorical
So mechanical
No wonder we're so goddam cynical
Out of mind, and out of sight
So blind that we can't see what's right

It's so material
We get empirical
Emotion's a waste when life is analytical
Future's bled dry before our eyes
And no-one bothers to ask why

It's ubiquitous
Maybe too much for us
I can't see why we let it go passing by
We've given up to be the norm,
And now we must sadly conform.

To concern ourselves with "things."
No never see the strings.
Survivors of the dream?
More like cogs in the machine.

Ours is not to question why,
Ours is but to do or die
Ours it but to work and work and work and
Never think of anything else...

I've become a ritualist.
A kinder, gentler masochist.

We live in fiction -
A contradiction
We treat the disease by curing the symptoms

We can't communicate
We've become paranoid
To fit the mold of the corporate android

We tick and tock
Punch the clock
Feelings so numbed that we can't be shocked
Got a barcode on my head -
and the bateries and not included

It's a shamble - The Preamble
Life's just a predetermined gamble
When playing slots you learn how to lose
When everything's fucked what can you choose?
