Academics

Name: Karen Molina
Year: Class of 2010
Major: Integrative Biology
Hometown: Carlsbad, CA
Pre-Professional Track: Medical School

Why did you decide to join PAHC?
I decided to join PAHC because I felt that there was something missing in my college experience, which was involvement in the Pilipino community at CAL. Since joining, I have met some of the most awesome people. I can truly call everyone I have met through PAHC my friends. They share my same interests and help motivate me to keep going when school can get rough.

As a core member, what skills or knowledge can you contribute to PAHC’s Internship Program ?
As co-academic coordinator, I coordinate study sessions, organize the test bank, provide info on research and volunteer opportunities, coordinate pre-professional workshops, and give academic advice. With these resources, I hope to help the interns succeed at CAL academicaly, whether it be helping to plan an intern’s schedule, being a study buddy to someone, or giving words of wisdom and encouragement. Doing well academically is important for us to pursue all of our pre-health goals and I hope to help each and every intern reach it. Also, i am a very fun and nice person. If any intern needs someone to talk to about anything, eat with, or hang out with because you have nothing to do and bored, I am here :-)

What do you like to do on your free time?
In my free time I like to just relax and watch movies. I also like to read, draw, hang with friends, and walk around campus. I LOVE to bake. From peanut butter chocolate chip oatmeal cookies to banana bread, I’ll bake anything as long as I have a working oven. Also, I used to competitively figure skate I was little. When I get the chance, I’ll try and go to the ice rink to exercise and relieve stress. Otherwise, I like working out at the gym while listening to my ipod.

Major: Integrative Biology

Pre-Professional Track: Pre-Med

Why did you decide to join PAHC?
Cal can be tough at times but with PAHC, there is a constant space where I can relax, be comfortable, and at the same time be engaged with the university and community. If it weren’t for the guidance, support, and opportunities provided by PAHC I would not be the same. PAHC does so many things not only for us personally as students but contributes much to the campus, the local community, and even populations overseas and across international borders. How can I not be drawn to this wide array of “PAHC-ness”?

True Story- Hours before going to my first PAHC meeting I suffered a mild concussion and sprained my wrist when I fell off my top bunk in the dorms. I wanted to rest but something in me pulled me to go still. I don’t know what it was but what can I say, there’s just something about PAHC that got me to go and that still keeps me coming =]

As a core member, what skills or knowledge can you contribute to PAHC’s Internship Program ?
The academics component exposes you directly to the process of obtaining the numerous resources that can lead to success at Cal and that can assist in your respective health-oriented futures. We offer academic, pre-professional, research & volunteer, and culturally relevant information and opportunities but we are not limited to that. We are more than just these things but are friends you can turn to for ANYTHING. PAHC is about support for YOU and academics represents much of that. We are all in this together and we are here to help you excel.

Feel free to talk to us about classes, professors, majors, scheduling, study strategies, etc and we’d be more than glad to share our experiences.

We’ll be here to talk, grab a bite to eat with it, be that study buddy who can look over your stuff at the library while you use the restroom haha, or whatever’s clever.

What do you like to do on your free time?
Drawing is an all time favorite. I’ve gotten hooked on House, M.D. I also like to play football, basketball, tennis, and now volleyball and so if you want to throw a football, shoot some hoops, rally, or teach me to be better a volleyball player: you know who to get at =] & oh, I used to be in karate for several years and so if you want to learn some stuff…
