Homicides in San Jose, Cupertino, and Saratoga

Jasmine Circle to Montecito

On July 12th five years ago, a man was murdered less than one mile from where I live in the Evergreen area of San Jose. The murder occurred near the corner of Mackin Woods Lane and Montecito Drive, while I live in Jasmine Circle (see map above). At the time of the murder, I was staying at my mother's home in Saratoga since her birthday is also on July 12th.

The homicide was San Jose's 20th homicide of 2019. I moved to San Jose in 2008 and between 2008 and 2019, there were
over 390 homicides in San Jose.

By comparison, there were
four homicides in Cupertino in that same time period (where I grew up) and five homicides in Saratoga (where I stay on the weekends, during the breaks, and during global pandemics). Of course, part of the reason for the large discrepancy is that the number of people in San Jose is approximately eleven times the number of people in Cupertino and Saratoga combined. However, 11*(4+5) = 99 and 99 is much less than 390.
