Klay and Purdy
The Golden State Warriors have won five championships since moving to the Bay Area in 1962. They missed out on an opportunity to win a sixth title when Klay Thompson tore his ACL in Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals. Incredibly, Thompson made two free throws (on two attempts) with that torn ACL. Largely because of Thompson's injury, the Warriors lost Game 6 and the series.
Like the Warriors, the 49ers have won five championships while in the Bay Area and missed out on a sixth one because of a key injury. In the first quarter of
the 2023 NFC Championship Game, starting quarterback Brock Purdy tore his UCL. The 49ers would go on to lose that game and the chance to play in the Super Bowl. Remarkably, Purdy completed two passes (on two attempts) with the torn UCL. Which feat with an injury was more impressive: Klay's two made free throws or Purdy's two completed passes?
