Oakland A's Winning and Curry 30-Point Streaks

The longest 30-point scoring streak in the NBA and the second-longest MLB winning streak in the last three years both involved Bay Area players/teams, ended in April 2021, and ended in the same geographical region of the country.

In March 2021, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry suffered a tailbone injury against the Houston Rockets. Because of the injury, Curry missed the Warriors' next five games. In his first game back (March 29), he scored 32 points against the Chicago Bulls. That game started an eleven-game streak for Curry in which he scored at least 30 points. The streak ended when he scored 18 points in a road loss to the Washington Wizards. The longest 30-point streak ever for Michael Jordan, whose final two seasons were with the Wizards, was also eleven games.

Shortly after Curry's 30-point streak started, the 2021 MLB season commenced. The Oakland A's got off to a rough start as they lost their first six games and were 1-7 after eight games. Not only were the A's losing, they were getting dominated: in their first 76 innings of the year, the A's hit a total of three home runs and held the lead in two (!!) of the innings. In the Athletics' ninth game, they beat the Houston Astros 6-3. That win started a thirteen-game winning streak.

The A's winning streak nearly ended the same day as Curry's streak. At approximately the same time the Warriors-Wizards game started, the A's were trailing the Minnesota Twins 12-10 going into the bottom of the 10th inning. They then scored three runs (on no hits!)
to win the game. Curry's 30-point streak and the A's winning streak did not end on the same day, but they did end in the same geographical region.

The A's initially had better luck than the Warriors did in
the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area. After defeating the Twins, they won the first two games in a three-game series in Baltimore. They lost the final game of the series against the Orioles and the winning streak ended. Before the winning streak started, the A's were 1-7 and in sole possession of the worst record in Major League Baseball. After the final game of the winning streak, they were 14-7 and in sole possession of the best record in the American League.

Curry's 30-point streak was the longest such streak for the Warriors since Wilt Chamberlain scored
at least 30 points in twelve consecutive games during the '64-'65 season. The A's winning streak was their longest winning streak since 2002, when they had a 20-game winning streak.
