Stephens
In the past thirty years, there have been two Bay Area professional sports head coaches named Stephen: Stephen
Mariucci served as the San Francisco 49ers head coach from 1997 and 2002 and Stephen Kerr has served as the
Golden State Warriors coach since 2014. Each coach benefited/has benefited from having their namesake on their
team. Mariucci was 25-7 when Steven
Young was his starting quarterback and 32-32 without him. In the same way that Mariucci was much better
with his namesake playing, Kerr has been more successful with Stephen Curry. Kerr has
a 62-102 record without Curry
(as of December 17, 2023) and a 414-147 record with Curry (also as of
December 17, 2023). Here's a little known fact: Curry's actual
first name is Wardell!
