We all need a break from midterms, so PASAE has decided to once again host a video game night! We will definitely have Smash, Guitar Hero, maybe Halo and any other games anyone cares to bring. FREE FOOD is of course provided. So bust out those controllers and consoles and join PASAE this Friday night (02/29) at 8pm in the Unit 2 APR!

Pa-Serenades 2008

Got a valentine so special that it takes more than one person to show how much you care for him or her? Let PASAE help you on the music with our first-ever Pa-Serenades! You can now hire a small team of PASAE members to harmonize to your heartthrob on the days leading up to the 14th. Time slots between 6pm and midnight are available on a sliding scale, so sign up now for the perfect start (or end) of your perfect Valentine’s date.

All the details can be found on The Pa-Serenade Application!!

We will be tabling on Sproul all this week if you wish to procure/submit an application, or ask for more information. Submit your application soon before all the coveted late slots fill up!

Last General/Movie Mash-Up

posted by Doncarlo

A long weekend like Thanksgiving break simply ends too abruptly, so we at PASAE have designed our last general meeting to helping you ease back into school mode. So to give us all the extra push of funz we need to get through those term papers, semester projects, and final exams, we are hosting a viewing night of holiday-themed 2-minute shorts, all made by YOUUU! So come by on Tuesday, November 27 at 8:30p in 155 Barrows and chill with your fellow classmates as we view what the Pilipino community managed to film up between midterms this past month. Of course, the obligatory FREE FOOD will be provided!

PASAE 3rd General Meeting

Alumni Mixer

posted by Doncarlo

Greetings PASAE Members and Alumni! Would you like to mingle with PASAE members past and present and share your own personal experiences? Join us at the PASAE Alumni Mixer! It’s a great way to establish contacts beyond UC Berkeley and to practice your networking skills! If you want to attend, meet us on Friday, November 16th at the Downtown Berkeley BART station at 5:45 PM. Bring $6.50 for BART (roundtrip) and around $10-$15 for dinner. Alternatively, you can meet at Chevy’s in SF (3rd and Howard) at 7PM.

Directions: Take BART to Montgomery Street Station. Exit onto Market Street and head south down Second Street towards Mission. Turn right onto Mission Street, walk down to Third Street, then turn left onto Third Street. Chevy’s is located on the corner of Third Street and Howard Street, three streets south of Mission.

To get an idea of how many people are going, please email professional@pasae.berkeley.edu if you plan to attend.

Our last event is about YOUUUUU

…or whatever you feel we should know about the holidays.

For PASAE’s last general meeting of the semester, we will be having a showing of holiday-related videos and other chill activities as we rest up in the last few weeks before finals. As a Pilipino community-wide event, the catch is that we need YOU to help bring part of the funz we have planned for the night, and it’s all as simple as uploading to YouTube! Let your director skillz run wild as you make us laugh, cry, think, or excited; all we ask is that it be original, about 2 minutes long, and somehow connected to the end-of-year holiday season.

Have a story about an awkward Thanksgiving dinner? Upload it!
Emo New-Year’s music video? Upload it!
Experimenting with stop-motion animation? Upload it!
Who knows, you might even win something!

We’re not asking for everyone to blow our minds with special effects; even a fun, simple titty dance will do…

YouTube links to your worksz of art are due to vp@pasae.berkeley.edu by noon on Monday, November 26th, so bust out those cameras and show us what YOU got!

TeleBEARS Advising

posted by Doncarlo

Does UGBA-10 count as a breadth requirement? Should I take Math-16A or 1A? This professor won a Nobel Prize, but should I take his course?

Don’t get stuck with unneeded classes taught by not-so-great teachers! If you have any doubts about your schedule for next semester, come join PASAE, PAHC, and P4 for their joint TeleBEARS advising this Monday, November 5th at 7pm in 100 Wheeler. There will be representatives from variety of fields: engineering, pre-law, buisness, pre-med, health, and more. Come out and get advice from people who have taken the same classes before.

2nd General Meeting

Name a famous Filipino architect.
Chances are you could not name one.

It turns out that thousands of Filipinos use their creative and analytical skills all over the world, yet are generally underappreciated for our mental prowess. If you would like to understand more about the history and present state of professional Pinoys, come to our second general meeting on Monday, October 8th at 7pm in 242 Dwinelle. FREE FOOD is provided.

Here’s a fun fact just to whet your appetite for knowledge (food is a given):
In the Philippines, over 1 in 4 engineers are female.
