Outreach

In 1980, Pilipin@s reached parity and were dropped from Student Affirmative Action, leading to a 90% drop Pilipin@ admissions rates in the next couple of years. Proposition 209 was passed in 1996, eliminating Affirmative Action and prohibiting public institutions from using race, sex, or ethnicity in admissions and contracting. In response to that Frank Lozier and David Maduli started SoCal Outreach, recognizing that Pilipin@s all across California were in need of outreach efforts. Still today, Pilipin@s are underrepresented on college campuses and outreach serves to inform students of their options after high school and that the privilege of a college degree is within their abilities.

Bay Area Outreaches

In the Fall semester, we outreach to High Schools and Community Colleges throughout the Bay Area. These outreaches may be in the form of classroom visits, personal statement workshops, as well as college panels (to name a few).

Central California Outreach

A week long trip outreaching to High Schools and Community Colleges in Central California. Central Cal Outreach was started in 2009 after PASS saw that Pilipin@s in these areas needed to be provided the same resources as those in Southern California and in the Bay Area. This is our opportunity for us to use our privilege of being Pilipin@s in higher education to inform them about the resources that are available to them.

Southern California Outreach

A week long trip that will take place during Spring Break where we empower underrepresented and under resourced High School and Community College students in the San Diego and Los Angeles into pursuing Higher Education or transferring.
