The Internal Affairs component serves as the 'back-bone' of our organization. It currently holds 5 different positions, all with the responsibility of keeping PASS running smoothly and efficiently.

Recruitment

The recruitment component of PASS seeks to promote awareness of access to higher education. PASS aims to spread knowledge and share experiences by encouraging our future leaders to pursue higher education.

Retention

PASS serves as a resource to the Pilipino campus population by providing academic resources and social services. Working closely with the Cesar Chavez Learning Center, we strive to build a community of academically, politically and socially retained individuals.

Tell Us About Your Position

The Executive Director (ED) helps guide the organization as a whole towards accomplishing its mission/visions. The ED has a good understanding of the ins and outs of PASS, acting as a support system to all staff members as well as interns and general members helping facilitate development through meetings, retreats, workshops, etc. It is important for the ED to be knowledgeable about the issues within the different communities that PASS is a part of such as the Pil-Community and bridges. Acts as a liaison/representative during important meetings and events.

What is your most memorable experience in PASS?

My most memorable experience in PASS would have to be my second Central California Outreach trip in which I was the High School Outreach Coordinator. I went to Coalinga High School and it was heartbreaking to see that the school was heavily under resourced. There were no boards to write on, with the exception of a dry erase board about double the size of a laptop screen. Most teachers that work there only stay there for about a semester. The broken down desks they used? donated by the local prison. Despite all of this, the students were still so thankful and appreciative of our visit. You could tell that they really wanted to go to college. It was such a tough experience for me. I finally understood how messed up our education system witnessing these inequalities first hand. That's when I told myself that I needed to do something.
