Tell Us About Your Position
This year, External Relations will be focusing on creating stronger relationships with organizations within our Pilipino community and other student groups within the UC Berkeley campus along with strengthening PASS' ties with other universities and community organizations. In addition, External Relations works with the Finance Coordinator and Executive Director to maintain PASS' private funding and also seeks alternate funding for PASS through grants, scholarships, and donations. By working closely with the Public Relations Coordinator to create a PASS newsletter and upkeep a collection of PASS hystory, External Relations hopes to keep connections to alumni and overall, maintain PASS' external network.
What is your most memorable experience in PASS?
My most memorable experience in PASS is: one day while I was mentoring at Bessie for YM, some the students in the first grade class were being really clingy all during recess. Then during homework club, one of the girls says to me, "Ate Deejay, are you staying with us today? I want you to stay with us forever." There have been numerous days where I go to mentor and help the kids with homework they're really struggling with and then there are days where it seems like I could've never showed up and the kids wouldn't have cared but at the end of the day I keep going because I know, no matter what, just me being present in the space is making a difference to those kids. It's moments like my favorite one that reaffirms this. However even if it wasn't for that, I know in my heart that I'm helping someone when I go to mentor and that's what keeps me going. It practically makes everyday at mentoring, a memorable one.

Favorite Quote
"Let there be kindness in your face, in your eyes, in your smile, in the warmth of your greeting. Always have a cheerful smile. Do not only give your care, but give your heart as well." - Mother Teresa
(Because if you're going to do something, do it with all of your heart.)
Three Interesting Facts About You
1. I fractured my nose freshmen year in high school because I ran into a pole during PE.
2. My favorite colors are blue and pink...but more of like the pretty shades of blue like teal, turquoise, various light blues, etc.
3. My full name rhymes: Donna-Jo Balico Pepito. But no one calls me by my actual name; everyone just calls me Deejay or Deej. I also have a hard time remembering to introduce myself as Donna-Jo in professional/interview settings.
