Brief Statement of Purpose:
After graduating in December of 1998, I am planning to apply to a number of graduate schools in political science, with an emphasis in international relations and political theory. My ultimate goal is to receive my doctorate and eventually teach in a small liberal arts university. Some of my interests in international relations include the rhetoric of foreign policymaking, the representational practices employed by transnational media organizations, and the potential transformative qualities of modern information technologies. I am currently writing my honors thesis in political science, which attempts to use a conception of discourse to describe the development and ins titutionalization of doctrines of nuclear deterrence during the Cold War. Aside from my academic aspirations, I have a passion for traveling and exploring. In the future, I hope to develop my Russian language abilities so that I can spend extended periods of time traveling and doing research abroad.
