Introduction This is a fun and interactive community service program designed to teach young kids lifelong ways to maintain healthy teeth and strong bones. DEOP presentations include puppet shows, skits, and step-by-step cleaning instructions using models. We also provide informational packets for the parents of the children at presentations. CalPDS offers a training session that familiarizes interested members with the general presentation content and props. DEOP School Presentations We have had positive responses over the years with many schools, and in appreciation of the success we are continuously trying to expand the program by reaching out to more schools in the local community. Our current goal is to have 10-15 presentations each semester for preschool students to lower elementary school students. Proper maintenance of dental/oral hygiene must be initiated in childhood. Therefore, our chief mission is to provide sufficient information about dental care and be instructive to convey proper techniques in order to improve the oral health of the community. DEOP Information for CalPDS Members You may participate in the DEOP presentations to fulfill your required events for the semester to earn the active membership. The presentation itself lasts approximately 30 minutes. Many members have enjoyed performing the fun and creative presentations at local pre-schools and kindergartens. We offer a brief training session to let you familiarize yourself with the general procedure. A list of when we will hold DEOP presenations can be found on our events page. A rough copy will be posted online shortly. If you would like more information, please contact the DEOP officers, Nicole Pelc (nicolepelc.at.berkeley.edu) or Angela Lee (angelalee.at.berkeley.com), for information on how to participate in this wonderful program. |
