Mudhoney News, 2008-2009
News

Sunday, October 18
Mudhoney Live Album: Munster Records will release a CD and double-LP of Mudhoney's 7/12/09 Madrid concert, as Live at El Sol!. The label previously released the show on DVD as Live at El Sol - the lack of an exclamation point perhaps indicating that DVDs are disfavored to records.

Thursday, July 23
Mudhoney in Rock Band Video Game: According to Tony Kiewel of Sub Pop, the label has plans to make Sub Pop's "entire catalog" available as playable downloadable tracks in the Rock Band game through the Rock Band Network. Given the amount of work involved in preparing a song for Rock Band, and that some of Sub Pop's releases have more selective appeal that may not translate into sales, perhaps it won't be the entire catalog. However, it's likely that some Mudhoney will make it into the game.

Thursday, July 2
Re-Releases: Sub Pop will re-release Mudhoney's first three records on vinyl on September 22. Each is remastered from the original tapes, as the original masters have been lost. Superfuzz Bigmuff and Mudhoney will include posters, and have some graphic improvements to their covers. Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge will have a sleeve with the two paintings that accompany the cover art (the car and plane paintings included in the CD artwork). All are on colored vinyl.

Aside from a brief re-release of Superfuzz Bigmuff in 2000, none of these albums have been available on vinyl since at least 1994.

Sunday, June 7
Green River Happenings: Green River will be recording a new record, re-relasing an old record, and playing more shows. The plan to record a new record is more concrete, subject to the time constraints of Mudhoney and Pearl Jam. They will also remix and remaster (by Jack Endino) Come on Down and release a deluxe edition with unreleased and live songs. In the mix with all this is a plan to play more shows.

Saturday, April 18
New Book: Greg Prato's recently released book, Grunge is Dead (ISBN: 1-55022-877-3) has lengthy, new interviews with Steve and Mark, as well as many of the other participants of the Seattle Scene's Seattle Sound. Receiving lengthy treatment are Mudhoney, Green River ... and the Limp Richerds and The Thrown-Ups.

Wednesday, April 8
New Music: Mudhoney has begun writing new material. So far, they've got one idea that's sufficiently developed to be considered a song.

Saturday, Februrary 7
Wylde Ratttz Songs: In his Watt from Pedro Show, Mike Watt aired the entire unreleased Wylde Ratttz record, including three songs that Mark sings on, Hollow (starts at 2:14:00), My Unclean (2:21:08), and a cover of The Stooges' Funhouse (2:43:13). Mark wrote the former two songs with Ron Asheton.

Hollow was previously available on the now-defunct Wylde Ratttz website, along with most of the record. My Unclean and Funhouse haven't been available before now. Mark also recorded several other Stooges songs with the Ratttz, of which only T.V. Eye has been released (on the School of Rock soundtrack; the version from Velvet Goldmine strips out his vocals).

Saturday, January 10
Mudhoney Documentary: King of Hearts, the people responsible for the TAD documentary Busted Circuits and Ringing Ears is making a Mudhoney documentary that they hope to have ready for next year's film festivals. They were just in Japan, taping Mudhoney's shows there.

Saturday, January 10
Green River Shirts: Sub Pop has a new version of Green River's Ride the Fucking Six Pack shirt for sale.

Thursday, November 20
New Green River Record: In interviews with KUFO-FM Portland, OR, Mark and Jeff Ament independently said that Green River plans to record a new record (Mark, being more cautious, puts it at 60-80% that it will come to fruition). Steve has said the same at the 11/15/08 San Diego, CA show. The idea is that each of the six members of the mega-Green River will write two songs - one fast and punky, one a slow dirge - and they'll get together to record when their schedules line up.

Thursday, September 25
45 Update: The Mudhoney split 45 (see below) is available for pre-order at trensmat.com.

Sunday, September 14

Thursday, August 14
Misc. Media: For those who have been welcomed to the social, the Zune marketplace (access requires downloading the Zune application) has a free video podcast where Mark gives a tour of Sub Pop's warehouse, as well as a 30-song playlist from Mark, which you may conveniently purchase. The tracklist is below. Search for "Sub Pop 20." It appears as though the videos might be a prelude to a larger project focusing on the SP20 Festival.

Wednesday, June 25
Mark in Movie: Mark will appear in a remake of Aki Kaurismaki's 1985 film Calimari Union, to be directed by Richard Lefebvre (who ran Ranch Recording Studio when Mudhoney recorded My Brother the Cow there). Shooting is scheduled to finish by the end of next month. The film follows several fictional aging rock musicians around Seattle.

Sunday, June 15
New Single: Mudhoney will release a split-45 single with Mugstar on Trensmat Records, an Irish label. Mudhoney will do Urban Guerilla. A recording of their 9/2002 BBC Recordings version of the song appeared on the Up Yours! compilaiton that came free with an issue of Mojo magazine. The record will be limited edition and released in July.

Tuesday, June 3
DVD Released: Munster Records has begun selling the Live at El Sol DVD, and it appears to be trickling out to retail outlets as well.

The Lucky Ones Bonus 45: Mudhoney will release a free 45 to accompany early copies of The Lucky Ones The a-side will be Street Waves by Pere Ubu and the b-side will be Gonna Make You Mine by The Troggs. The 45 will be included with all copies of the LP as well as the first 200 CDs pre-ordered through subpop.com. Additionally, early copies on both formats are likely to be autographed.

Friday, April 18
Mudhoney Songs Tomorrow?: As a part of Record Store Day, tomorrow, April 19, many independent record stores will be giving away the new Sub Pop sampler, Terminal Sales Vol. 3: Happy Birthday to Me!. The record is advertised as having unreleased songs, so it may very well include cuts from The Lucky Ones and Superfuzz Bigmuff: Deluxe Edition.

Thursday, March 6
Album Covers: The covers to Superfuzz Bigmuff: Deluxe Edition and The Lucky Ones are available. Of note is that the Superfuzz Bigmuff: Deluxe Edition cover crops the Charles Peterson photo differently than does previous versions of the record. Also available are a pair of promo photos (1, 2).

Monday, March 3
Superfuzz Bigmuff: Deluxe Edition: On May 20, Sub Pop will release Superfuzz Bigmuff: Deluxe Edition (SP733) on 2 CDs. The first disc will contain Superfuzz Bigmuff plus Early Singles, plus even more early singles - 'Twenty Four' and 'The Rose.' Note that the track order has been re-arranged into a rough chronological order ('Twenty Four' was the first Mudhoney release due to Sub Pop being late on releasing the 'Touch Me I'm Sick' 45), and varies from the order they've been performing the record for the Don't Look Back series of concerts. The second disc will contain three demos from the April, 1988 sessions with Jack Endino for the 'Touch Me I'm Sick' single, as well as their 10/10/88 Berlin show, of which some has been released on video, and their KCSB radio sessions. The track list is as follows:

Gabriel's Horn Track List: The record was printed with an incorrect track list. They fixed that problem by putting a sticker over it with a revised track list. The sticker was printed with an incorrec track list. Here is the correct track list:

  3. That's What You Get
  4. Gabriel's Horn
  5. Black Plastic Tarp

'Echo Canyon Express', which appeared on previous track lists is not another song, but is a mangled title of 'Open Your Arms.' All other song titles that appeared on the other track lists are likewise not other songs, but manglings of the correct track list.
