For individual stats, "rebounds" were not counted. A rebound is a tossup that is scored after the other team interrupts first with a wrong answer. This is to prevent individuals from trying to beat out their team-mates just to jack up their stats. Quarterfinals Fresno A beat Cal A, 350-195 Cal Negative Vibes beat Cal Dregs, 385-95 Cal Inner Child beat Stanford B, 285-180 Stanford A beat BYU A, 395-155 The biggest surprise of this round was #8 Fresno beating #1 Cal A soundly. This may have been because the packet used, submitted by UMKC, seemed to be somewhat of a speed packet, and the ultra-quick Ron Trigueiro proved too much for Cal A (who had as members veteran ACFers Matt Baker and Gaius Stern). Stanford A, also no slouches when it comes to speed, whupped BYU A by an inordinately large margin. Semifinals Stanford A slaughtered Fresno A, 225-30. Ron went 2-4 on this packet, and never stood a chance. CB question-writer extraordinaire Jeff Demmin on Stanford A picked up 5 tossups and one rebound. Cal Inner Child beat Cal Negative Vibrations, 310-185. The quintessential "pendulum game"; Cal NV started out strong, getting four questions in a row. Then Cal IC got five in a row. At the half the game was tied at 125 all. Cal NV got another four in a row, making it 190-120. Then Cal IC turned into a monster and got the next seven tossups, including a tour de force performance by former Georgia Tech player David Levinson who racked up five in a row, and that was it. Cal NV freshman Michael Bennett scored five of the team's tossups on some gutsy buzzes. White-Ribbon Round Cal Negative Vibes beat Fresno A, 265-90. Playing a John Sheahan and John Edwards packet, Cal NV dominated the game completely, securing third place. The "Mourning Becomes Electra Woman and Dyna Girl" bonus was a big hit. Finals Cal Inner Child beat Stanford A, 310-60. The score says it all. Playing Vishnu's hard-nosed ACF-style packet, Stanford folded completely. Many thanks to all who played, and especially moderators Joel Goldberg, Craig Leff, and Larry Rubinow.
