Virginia Tech made a serious run for the crown, having beat Michigan in the round-robin and then earning their berth to the final in a half-round tiebreaker over Michigan as well. Michigan then had to defeat Penn State A to get into the final. But Michigan won twice in the final, and took the tournament. Final Game 1: Michigan A 245, Virginia Tech A 190 Final Game 2: Michigan A 465, Virginia Tech A 240 We played divisions, followed by cross-division upper and lower brackets. The playoff was in ladder form to give everyone two more games. Just in case I misbalanced the brackets, 9th place could have moved as high as 7th. In the first round, not a single upset occurred, so I thought we had it ordered corretly. Then, in the second round, only one team "held serve". (The ladder play scores is the sheet I don't have, so if somebody's ladder record is listed wrong, I apologize.) >From what I have and my memory of the ladder: Div. But after I had a round and a half to get coordinated, I felt the tournament run smoothly. A few items of interest: Our highest PPG D1 player was on a team that was in the lower division of the second set of games. Dave Goodman had more power tossups than every other _team_ except Michigan B. He also outnegged a Good number of teams. Take a look at PSU A and Bowling Green A players. This was followed by cross-bracket play of top 4 and bottom 3. At this point, there was a tie in record for 1st, and also one for 3rd. I broke those ties with 9 minute half rounds. After round 12, because both Michigan and Virginia Tech had one loss apiece, the final was a best of three, no advantage (I agree with Matt Colvin too, but Eric Hilleman was my original source.) The ladder play followed this format: Round 12: 1-Bye 2-3 4-5 6-7 8-9 10-11 12-13 14-Bye Round 13: (Final Game #1,1-2) 3-4 5-6 7-8 9-10 11-12 13-14 Round 14: Final Game #2, 1-2 Division II (5 teams) played a double round-robin. Because Washington and Jefferson elected to leave, we went right to semi-finals. The defeated semi-final teams played a consolation round. Michigan won the final, and was declared champion.
