Congratulations to Stanford A and Caltech for their victories in Divisions I and II, respectively, in last weekend's Seventh Western Invitational Tournament at UC Berkeley. We had what may have been an all-time high field of 18 teams--seven in division I and 11 in division II. Stanford (with help from Rory Molinari) went an impressive 10-1-1, winning their division by 3 games, and although they aren't quite as frightening as they were last year with the losses of Adam Kemezis, Roger Lee, and Jesse Molesworth, thanks to the development of sophomore Kenny Easwaran and the arrival of Prasun Ray they'll still be very strong this year. In Division II, Caltech, led by Jay Catherwood, went 10-3 in the initial 1 and 1/3-round robin, and defeated Occidental fairly comfortably in the finals. Stats may be found below (scroll down for Div II). I'd like to thank Minnesota, Georgia Tech, and MIT for swapping questions with us, Jason Hong for help with editing and stats, Andy Penner for running numerous errands and helping with other details, Fred Carpenter for her impeccable-as-always food service, all the readers, and all the participating teams, especially Whitman, Penn, and (at least part of) Silicon Age, who flew in from out of state. -Mike Usher WIT 7 Tournament Director Teams Ranked by Win/Loss/Tie after Round 14 TEAM W L T TO INT TP TPA OP.T OP.I OP.P OP.AV DIFF ---- - - - ---- ---- ---- ----- ---- ---- ---- ----- ---- Stanford A 10 1 1 10.75 1.92 3500 291.7 7.25 0.92 2280 190.0 101.7 + Berkeley Bloody 7 4 1 9.33 1.83 2975 247.9 7.83 1.75 2285 190.4 57.5 + Penn 7 5 0 8.42 1.00 2740 228.3 8.25 1.92 2745 228.8 -0.4 Caltech I 6 5 1 9.92 1.83 3280 273.3 8.00 1.58 2570 214.2 59.2 & Silicon Age 5 6 1 7.17 1.92 2255 187.9 4.75 0.75 2110 175.8 12.1 + USC I 3 9 0 5.92 1.08 1745 145.4 10.67 1.58 3275 272.9 -127.5 + Stanford B 2 10 0 5.75 0.92 1845 153.8 10.50 2.00 3075 256.2 -102.5 + denotes total includes one forfeit win over Silicon Age. & denotes total includes four forfeit losses.
