Campus Recycling and Refuse Services Web site Opens
From the desk of Lisa Bauer, Manager of Campus Recycling and Refuse Services
Let me welcome you to the Campus Recycling and Refuse Services (CRRS) Web site. We hope that the new millennium will not only usher in technological advances, but also an expansion of recycling on the UC Berkeley campus and beyond.
As UC Berkeley’s first full time Recycling Coordinator, I am proud to have aided in the development of the campus recycling program. Since the inception of CRRS in mid-1997, we are proud to have helped expandour recycling rate from 15% to 35%. Probably the most visible program has been the blue, deskside recycling bins for mixed paper.
However, we could not have done anything without
help. We would like to thank all of the campus staff who handle the recycling, from
your bin to the paper mills. This includes the excellent custodial staff of Custodial Services,
and the drivers and equipment operators within CRRS. We would also like to
thank the supervisors and managers who have supported us in our efforts to
expand our various programs.
And finally, we want to thank those of you who take
the effort to recycle! Your efforts have made a difference with over 3,000
tons of material diverted from the landfill last year.
