Indian Rock is a small rock park in northwest Berkeley, way up Shattuck. It's made up of some huge outcroppings of rhyolite, a type of volcanic rock (from what volcano? I don't know...). These massive rocks are quite amazing, and the view you can get from the top is awesome, too. Apparently it is a popular place for people to visit, but I've found if you show up really early in the morning on a weekday you can have it all to yourself, which is nice. Otherwise it's crawling with random visitors, groups of people, couples, people and their dogs, and climber types during the day. In any case, I like it there. :)
A general view of Indian Rock Park (they're taller than they look, really!)

The view from the top. Too bad it was foggy.

An old air raid siren is still around.

Looking down on the rocks below. You don't really want to fall from here. :P

Um, a good reason NOT to knit on top of a large, steep rock.

Looking up towards the other peak at Indian Rock (the one that doesn't have stairs).
It's basically a big pile of huge rocks.

Looks like a panther head from this angle!

Another view of the siren.

The easy / lazy / smart / wussy way up.

Some of the other sides of Indian Rock.

Another rock park nearby. I don't know why there are gaping holes in the side.

I think maybe these little holes are from Native Americans who were grinding acorns.
That's what the sign at Indian Rock said, but this is a little ways off.

Is it a rock floating above the ground? Or is it a hole peering into other realms?
Hint: rocks generally aren't known to float above the ground...

Obviously not a rock. But here for your viewing pleasure, just 'cos it's pretty.
