Taxes

January 28, 2008

I'm really tired to presidential candidates (both Republicans and Democrats), saying they'll give the "working man" a tax cut. Even though I'll love to have my taxes reduced, the truth is, the government can't afford to reduce the "working man's" tax. Reducing the "working man's" tax by just $10/person will cost the government $1.2 billion. So any tax break that actually becomes law will probably not consider you a "working man" (or woman).

For the same reason, it's a lie whenever a presidential candidates say they're only going to raise taxes on the rich. In order the raise the same $1.2 billion from the rich, they would have to raise their taxes by $80/person (that 800% of $10!!!). So, if they raise taxes on the rich, they'll probably consider you "rich"

Also, note that they'll never just reduce taxes by just $10. It's probably more like hundreds, so we're talking about a lot more than $1.2 billion.

*Based on 150 million tax payers; middle 80% considered working class; top 10% considered rich.
