Article I: Berkeley Seventh-Day Adventist Student Association

The name of this organisation shall be the Berkeley Seventh-Day Adventist Student Association (SDASA).


Article II: Purpose

Section I. The objectives of the SDASA are:

    a. To provide the opportunity to become acquainted with and enjoy the fellowship of students, faculty, and staff who hold membership and have interest in the Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) denomination.
    b. To promote spiritual growth, both personal and corporate.
    c. To encourage members in personal service and evangelistic outreach for others.
    d. To keep members informed of recent trends and concerns of the SDA denomination.

Article III: Membership

Section I. Membership will be open to all University of California, Berkeley (Cal) students.

Section II. All full or part-time faculty of Cal who are members of the SDA Church are eligible for election into this organisation.

Section III. All full or part-time staff of Cal who are members of the SDA Church are eligible for election into this organisation.

Section IV. There shall be no discrimination in membership privileges based on creed, race, or gender in this organisation.


Article IV: Government

The laws of this organisation shall consist of the local constitution and by-laws and the interim actions and regulations of Cal.


Article V: Officers

Section I. The officers of this organisation shall be president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer.

Section II. The executive board shall consist of the president, vice president, treasurer, and sponsor(s).


Articles VI: Election and Appointment of Officers and Length of Term

Section I. Election of officers shall occur in April each academic year. Terms of office shall last until the end of each academic year, so that officers-elect can be train and/or briefed on office responsibilities.

Section II. Candidates for office shall apply either electronically, manually, or verbally to a member of the executive board, who shall then report the application to the full board, or directly to the full board. The executive board shall verify the membership status of all candidates. The executive board shall present qualified candidate names to the general assembly for voting in April.

Section III. Officers election ballots shall be secret.


Article VII: Meetings

Section I. The SDASA will meet a minimum of once each month except during vacation months. Meeting date and time will be determined by the membership.

Section II. The executive board will meet when determined by the president and sponsor(s).


By-Laws

Article I: Membership

Section I. Membership in the SDASA shall be active after fulfillment of the stated requirements below.

Section II. Qualifications of the membership should be either undergraduate or graduate students, full or part-time staff who are members of the SDA Church, and alumni of Cal. Also, those who are not members of the SDA Church but who express like interests and goals (as determined by the executive board) will be admitted to regular membership.

Section III. The active member is one who has met the financial requirements of the SDASA (unless waived by the executive board) and has not missed three (3) consecutive meetings.

Section IV. Members will revert to inactive status after non-payment of dues (unless waived by the executive board) if interests and goals change (as determined by the executive board), or missing three (3) consecutive meetings.

Section V. Any member absent from campus for official University business (or any situation as determined by the executive board) may be considered for inactive membership status.

Section VI. Inactive members shall not have the privileges and benefits of active membership.


Article II: Officers

Section I. In order for a member's name to be placed on the April election ballot, she or he must be an active member of the SDASA and the SDA Church.

Section II. Election will be by a simple majority of the quorum.

Section III. Any officer other than the president may resign when such resignation is submitted in writing (manually) to the president. The president may resign when such resignation is submitted in writing (manually) to the sponsor(s).

Section IV. When a vacancy occurs, an office shall be filled with a qualified candidate by simple majority vote of a quorum.


Article III: Amendments

Section I. These by-laws may be amended by a simple majority of a quorum.


Article IV

Section I. The sponsor(s) shall be a full or part-time University of California faculty member or SDA pastor or chaplain and shall be elected annually along with the officers.


Article V

Section I. Any officer who does not perform her or his duties as outlined by the constitution may be impeached by a majority of the quorum at two (2) consecutive meetings.


Article VI: Meetings

Section I. The SDASA shall meet a minimum of once each month, except during vacation months. Meeting date and time shall be determined by the membership.

Section II. The executive board shall meet when determined by the president and the sponsor(s).


Article VII: Finances

Section I. There shall be an annual membership fee determined by the executive board. The executive board may waive the annual membership in special circumstances.

Section II. All revenue shall be dispensed as prescribed by either the executive board or the membership at a monthly meeting.


Article VIII: Committees

Section I. Committees shall be appointed by the president or pro tempore as deem necessary.


Article IX: Quorum

Section I. A quorum shall be mandatory for constitutional amendments and the election of officers.

Section II. A quorum shall consist of two-thirds of the active membership.

Section III. The executive board quorum shall be a simple majority of the board membership.


Article X: Amendments

Section I. This constitution may be amended by a simple majority of the quorum.
