Belleville, the homesite of Edith Pilaf as well as the animation Triplets of Belleville; although you should really see the French animation Le Planete Sauvage (Fantastic Planet) if you haven't -- cus that's some alien world, revolutionary resistance against overpowering technology type sick shit. If that's not enough, Madlib samples the jazz tracks from the animation without stop ; on Quas' return, you can find some fo the characters even on the cover art. If you're not down with Quas, then be down with revolutionary autonomous resistance, because apathetic mother fuckers need some passionate commitments in their lives. Sorry, that's another post.
Anyway, to give ya'll some background, Belleville holds a strong immigrant community and has a long history of such -- ranging from Sarfadic Jews, to Chinese, Vietnemese, Egyptien, Tunisian, and such and such. In other words, the neighborhood got some flavor. I was trying to find some non-lamp heated Chinese food and challah for the week, and while going through various backstreets I stumbled upon an empty lot with the sides of buildings completely painted. It covered a wall that maybe stretched the length of almost a soccer field and about 25-30 feet high. The only cat I'm familiar with is l'Atlas, which you can find a lot of information on if you just do a little google search. Sorry about the lack of updates, my camera blew up, and writing essays in French takes up more time than I would want. I need to do a short music update and some more graf things... hopefully to come. Enjoy this shit though --
