Hiphop in the Park Fundraiser Details

What do you do if you or a loved one are in pain and there's a way to stop it but you don't have the money for treatment? For many Ethiopian children, ages 13-19, this is their reality. They each have a form of scoliosis that is dangerously advanced and is threatening to take their lives if they do not get surgery. Scoliosis surgery in the U.S. costs about $200,000, but Rick Hodes, a doctor who specializes in this surgery, returns to Ghana, his home country, once a year to perform this surgery for a fraction of the cost - only $7000.
Our goal is to raise money at Hip Hop in the Park to help pay for these surgeries. All donations will be given to the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, a legitimate and highly-respected non-profit who Dr. Hodes is closely affiliated with. Dr. Hodes has guaranteed that 100% of the donations will go towards the surgeries. If you cannot come to the event but are interested in donating, or have any questions, comments, or concerns, please email Casey at ckett0203@berkeley.edu.
