›Fall 2009 Rush Schedule Coming Soon ›What is Rush? Rush is a week filled with free food, great events, and a lot of fun. It’s a time where men interested in joining a Fraternity can get to know the brothers of the house, check out the house itself, and make a lot of new friends. At the end of this week an invitation to join will be extended to those privileged young men we feel will best fit into our brotherhood and be able to gain the most value from it. It’s important to remember that attending Rush events carries no obligation or fees, it’s simply an opportunity for you to get to know us and check out what we’re about. If you are unsure about anything, have any questions, or feel a little lost make sure you contact one of our Rush Chairs, Nicholas Shook and Kevin Lin. ›Why Sigma Pi? Joining a Fraternity is one of the most important decisions you will ever make, so it’s important to choose the right one. Our house can offer you things no other organization can. From a close knit brotherhood to leadership opportunities, the ideals of Sigma Pi focus on friendship and success. We know both academics as well having a good time are important to any college student, and as a result we make sure every brother in the house has the right resources to do both. When so many of the brothers of Sigma Pi have GPA’s above 3.5 and are in programs from Haas to EECS, it’s easy to see why the old stereotypes of “frat boys” are no longer valid. There’s not just “one kind of guy” who can join Sigma Pi, anyone who’s interested in developing their character, improving their scholarship, and increasing their success is welcome. Here at Sigma Pi you will…
›The Advantages of Being a Sigma Pi
The Academic portion of your university career is one significant determinant in your future success. The primary purposes of the fraternity system is to encourage and develop high scholastic achievement among its members. Just over 50% of students in university end up graduating. However, amongst fraternity men, your chances of graduating successfully increase to over 70%! Fraternity members help each other to succeed by providing study resources to one another, having study hours and holding study nights (often with sororities), and by providing role models of successful older brothers who have experience regarding what to do and what not to do. Brothers are always willing to give you tips on classes they have taken, proofread your paper, or give you advice on what to do for your given major or program. Iota Chapter hosts a number of successful and competitive students, including students majoring in business, engineering, economics, political science, and mathematics, to name a few.
Each fraternity participates in the numerous competitive sports in the Campus Intramural Leagues and in interfraternal sports like the Greek Games. It’s difficult to get a group of people on your own to play team intramural sports, Ultimate Frisbee, or to get a softball game together on a Sunday afternoon. Fraternities offer all of this along with the pride of sportsmanship, team spirit, and competition! Recently, Iota Chapter has fielded intramural basketball and soccer teams that have been among the top teams in their respective leagues, and a co-ed softball team with the ladies of Sigma Kappa. In the fraternity, you will be "in charge" of an event or a duty. Everyone in the fraternity is a leader, whether you’re an officer, an executive, on a committee, or just a participant. You will learn by doing. You’ll learn how to manage a budget, run effective meetings, speak in public, motivate others … skills that will help you in university and throughout your life. These days it takes more than just a degree to get a good job - it takes leadership experience. While fraternity alumni are only 2% of the population, they are:
So, let’s say you’ve graduated or are just looking for a summer job. Now what? In today’s economy and job market, it’s going to take more than looking at wanted-ads and job postings. You need to network with people. The fraternity is one of the best ways to do just that. Not only will you have numerous brothers from your own chapter and other chapters that you will personally meet, Sigma Pi has over 86,000 worldwide initiates. Using the resources of fraternity members like alumni, you'll have thousands of people who you already have an instant connection with. The resources of alumni are unlimited and can not only help you get a job or fund your ideas but they can give you uncommon real-world advice on how to succeed.
Not many (if any) other oganizations can offer you the resources, the unbreakable bonds of brotherhood, and the best social experience on campus, and as a result being a brother of Sigma Pi is both a priviledge and an honor. As you can see around campus, and especially amongst the greek community, Sigma Pi is a very well known organization and our influence is widespread. We are known among the Berkeley community for our amazing basement (set up like a club), our successful brothers, and our insane big parties (like Galaxy). There's no doubt about it, being a brother of Sigma Pi is something to identify with and be proud of. We invite you out to experience the difference and see for yourself why we stand above the rest. |
