2-D Work
ASUC Art Studio - Portrait Drawing, Fall '03

"Portrait #5" - This guy is pissed.

"Portrait #4"

"Portrait #3" - Domo oregato, Jennifer
Yamato.

"Portrait #2"

"Portrait #1" - My first portrait drawing. It's
based off a model who came into class, but it looks absolutely nothing like the
person. Even so, I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.
ASUC Art Studio - Intro to Drawing, Summer '03
Just a basic drawing class I took, I learned
mostly the terminology and "rules" to drawing. I have some others, but
these are my three favorites.

"Flamingo and Boot" - Was an exercise in value
using charcoal. I was to look at the still life and reduce all the color
values we saw into black and white. I colored pitch black, then started
erasing from there. It ended up pretty abstract, which turned out fine
with me. Since I remember what the real objects looked like, I can still kinda see the actual physical set-up based on the values. There's actually
an third object in there too, but I'll let you squint a little harder to find
it. (psst, it's part of an umbrella)

"Jungle Gym" - Another value exercise, except this
time I added a grayscale to the image using chalk and charcoal on a gray sheet
of paper. If you're wondering, it's actually a plush monkey stuck between
the legs of two stools (one upside down, the other resting on top right side
up), and a high heel shoe in the foreground. Probably my favorite of the
ones I drew that summer.

"Factory" - The last piece I did in the class, I
used charcoal and ink in this one. Our assignment was to experiment with
different ways to use the ink, charcoal, or anything else to express different
emotional styles, or something-or-whatever. Very artsy stuff, so it didn't
really matter how it looked when it ended. The ink was pretty
intimidating, since there was no room for error. The wirey look turned out
alright, but after that I kind of gave up, and just fudged the rest and added
the conveyor belt. :]
