Liz

My name is Elizabeth Rodriguez, most people call me Liz. I have served as the Technology Coordinator and Secretary for SPARR for the past year. I was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles where I lived a simple and relatively comical life. On October 4, 2002, I became a statistic. I gave birth to my son, Nathan, at the age of fifteen. Nathan came into my world and made things straneously difficult and marvelously wonderful all at once. I continued attending my high school and proudly graduated with my class in 2005, with my baby of course. And on April 30, 2005 I defied statistics because I became a low income, mexican, teenage mother, and a first generation college student. The University of California, Berkeley accepted me for the Fall Semester of 2005.

I then accepted the invitation to attend U.C. Berkeley, I moved here with nothing but the clothes on my back and Nathan. Once here, I met our current Co-presisent, Ginelle Perez, she taught me the ins and outs of surviving at Cal. I struggled through my freshman year but soon picked up the pace. I am an Interdisciplinary Studies Field Major with a concentrarion on the Psychology of Low Income Families. I will be applying to law school after my undergraduate studies here at Cal. During my second year I came on board with SPARR as their secretary and eventually as their technology coordinator and creator of this website. Through this website and the association I hope to reach out to other student parents and motivate them to strive beyond the society-set expectations.

I encourage the idea that Student Parents are limitless individuals with walking, talking reasons to achieve the greatest of goals.
