End of the Semester News
As of this week, we will no longer be having regular office hours, but feel free email sspcemail@gmail.com or use our appointment page if you would like to see a peer counselor this week. Some counselors may still be having office hours, so feel free to drop by regardless if you happen to be in the area. We will be resuming our regular office hours at the beginning of next semester.

How to see a Peer Counselor
Ever feel like talking out a problem but don't know who to turn to? Try talking to an SSPC Peer Counselor! You can reach us by phone (510-642-9021), by dropping by 318 Eshleman during our open hours, or by making an appointment.

Our service is free and confidential, offered five days a week, and provided for students by students. See our About Us or FAQ to find out more.

Info Sessions and Other Business
We've got rooms for the info sessions all worked out now:

Tuesday: 7-9pm in 5 Evans
Wednesday: 7-9pm in 103 Genentics and Plant Biology

As for our other business... In addition to the club, we do have a DeCal, which is a fun and low-stress way of getting introduced to our model and learning about various mental health issues. Click here to find out more!

Welcome!
Welcome/welcome back to school, everyone! For those of you interested in joining, you're in luck! Our informational meetings/interviews will be held next week on Tuesday and Wednesday evening. Come by either meeting to learn more about Peer Counseling and get started with the club! We'll be going over our counseling model and conducting personal, low-stress interviews with anyone who is interested towards the end of the meeting. If you want to find out more in advance, look through our website or email sspcemail@gmail.com.

Suicide Awareness Week coming up soon!
We hope you've all been enjoying your Spring Breaks! Our semesterly Suicide Awareness Week is just around the corner! On the week of April 4th, we'll be on Sproul handing out yellow ribbons and wristbands to raise awareness of suicide, particularly on college campuses. Come join us for our two evening events:

Untold Stories + Electroboy
On this Wednesday, March 2, SSPC will be holding Untold Stories. With this event we hope to provide an open forum in which to share personal experiences related to mental health. The idea is to create an open an trusting environment in which we can talk to, listen, and support one another as we work toward overcoming the stigma surrounding mental disorders. It will be Wednesday from 6-8pm in 2 Evans. Free cookies from Cream will be provided at the event.

As part of the Mind Body Awareness Week, Active Minds and the Tang Center are hosting a lecture centered around mental health awareness and suicide prevention on college campuses by Andy Behrman, the author of Electroboy: A Memoir of Mania.The event will be held on Thursday, March 10, 7-9pm in 155 Dwinelle (meet and greet starts at 6pm, main event at 7pm).

Graduate Student Panel & Happy Thanksgiving!
We hope that last week everyone enjoyed and learned a lot from the many suicide awareness events, and are now able to spread this awareness to others. If you have any feedback or thoughts to share with us, feel free to contact us via email.

Coming up next, however, is another exciting event: the Psychology Graduate Student Panel!

Suicide Awareness Week (SAW)
This week is Suicide Awareness Week (SAW)! Come join us for our many events this week:

Monday: LGBT Community Panel (Facebook event)

    To kick off this year's Suicide Awareness Week, Active Minds at Berkeley, SSPC, and Kulanu (formerly Queer Jews and Allies) are hosting a talk and a discussion with Rabbi Jane Rachel Litman, the Western Region Director of the Jewish Reconstructionist Federation, to address the recent suicides and their significance in the Jewish community.

Tuesday: Professor Ann Kring and Tang Center speaker (Facebook event)

    Suicide is the second highest cause of death for college students. As part of Suicide Awareness Week, Professor Ann Kring will address warning signs, prevention, stigma and other issues surrounding suicide. Food and drinks will be provided. Come listen and learn to what you can do to help prevent suicide.

Wednesday: The Bridge (Facebook event)

    Come join us for a screening and discussion of The Bridge, a 2006 documentary centered around suicides committed off the Golden Gate Bridge. Food and drinks will be provided.
