Vote for SWE '09-'10 Executive Officers

03.29.2009

How to Vote:

1) Click on this link!
2) Choose a person for each position! You may only vote for one (1) person for each position, but you may vote for the same person for multiple positions if you wish. To read each candidate's statement, click here.
3) Write-in Candidates: You may type in a new candidate for any / all positions if you wish. Write-in candidates must still be eligible. Anyone who has been a SWE officer or chair is eligible. You may find a list of officers under the 'Contact Us' tab of the website. Chairs include: Kelsey Boulanger, Sara LaVigna, Vini Mani, Melinda Ngo, Katie Ramp, Constance Lu, and Elaine Tu.
4) Note on the names: Only the Teller's Committee (a graduating senior who is unbiased and not a part of the nominating committee) will be counting the votes. We ask for your name only to ensure that Stanford's SWE section isn't sabotageing us and forcing us to elect Rosie the Riveter, Amelia Earhart, Madam Curie, and some EVIL Stanford person as our SWE execs. If you've ever been to any kind of UC Berkeley SWE event, are a current student, and have no realized plans for world domination, you can vote. You do NOT have to be a national member to vote.

E-Week 2009 Build Competition

03.18.2009

The Challenge: With a group of up to 10 students, build a working "catapult" to launch water balloons at opposing teams. Don't be restricted to the traditional catapult design, focus on functionality, ease of use, and the "Wow!" factor.

Teams will be evaluated on their catapult's accuracy, creativity and team spirit.

The purpose behind this event is to provide a chance to apply many of the principles learned in class to a "real"-world application, show off Berkeley's engineering superiority at Cal Day and allow students to bond by devising a weapon of mass precipitation. We hope to to have 3 teams and 3 catapults to demo in the woodchip area in front of Evans Hall on Cal Day to our prospective students. Assembly of the physical catapult will take place as one of the events during E-Week and will be sponsored by the Engineer's Joint Council. Building materials will be subsidized up to $100 but materials must be purchased by the teams. Teams must submit their first draft of construction plans along with a list of materials by March 30th. Designs will be evaluated for safety before construction can begin and a bulk shopping trip for materials may be organized. Water balloons will be provided on Cal Day for each team and at least two team members will be expected to be present to demonstrate their catapult on Cal Day.

The attached .PDF file summarizes the event and construction timeline.

To sign up send an email with your name, major and year of graduation to eweekbuild2009@gmail.com by this Friday March 20, 2009. If you have group of friends you would like to work with submit your names in one email. From those who sign up, teams of 10 will be formed and lists will be sent out the first weekend of spring break so teams can begin brainstorming ideas.
