Have no fear, Engineer!
SWE invites local girl scouts to Cal for the afternoon to learn about the
joys of engineering. With plenty of fun activities (and a delicious lunch!),
ENFE gives the girls an opportunity to explore engineering topics and ideas
with the goal of getting them to think about potentially pursuing a career
in math and science.

A half-day event where High School and Middle School students come to
Berkeley to attend in-depth workshops on the different disciplines of
engineering and why it is important and beneficial to pursue an educational
career in engineering. The event is organized by HES (Hispanic Engineers and

Expanding Your Horizons
EYH is held at San Francisco State University every year. SWE sponsors a
hands-on workshop for students rotating through the activities. The goal of
EYH is to get local teenagers interested in math and science who might not
have otherwise considered going into these fields.

LeConte Elementary School Volunteering
LeConte Elementary is one of Berkeley’s most socioeconomically
disadvantaged school, and the teachers are working hard to give the children
the best education possible. A small group of children have demonstrated
advanced abilities in math and science (plus an interest in being challenged
academically), but are not able to get the attention they need in a
classroom forced to focus on getting everyone to pass the minimum standards.
SWE plans to come in on a weekly basis and work through a teacher-designed
curriculum with these students, utilizing our enthusiasm for math and
science to help these kids grow and be excited about learning!
