Christmas Bonfire, IVCF
I'll be honest, the IV bonfire happened 6 months ago and my memories about it are starting to fade... but I will always remember what an amazing time we had. Justin Yi sent me these pictures that he took, and I couldn't resist putting them up. It started out as a "super secret large-group" meeting, and we headed down to the Underhill Parking lot to get our car rides together and discover that we were going to ocean beach for a bonfire!
We drove out to the beach... it seemed to work out that everyone in my car lived out that way. I don't remember who ride with my, but we passed their high school on the way, and they pointed out the sites as we drove by. When we got there, it became a "which bonfire is ours" search... there were like four other fires on the beach. We finally found our group picnicking about a half mile from where we parked, and joined them around the fire. Though it had been raining all day, it cleared up for us that night. The stars were shining brilliantly in the sky. Dennis and Justin pulled out their guitars and we sang Christmas carols. After a while, we went to the edge of the crashing waves, pushing each other into the foam. We poked around a washed up jellyfish for a while, then headed back up just to sit around the fire again, enjoying each others company. It was an amazing time of fellowship, one of the best experiences I'd have as a senior. |
You know, this was the second bonfire I'd been to at ocean beach. At the end of my junior year, we went out there to celebrate the end of finals by tossing our readers into the flames with the community we developed in our apartment complex. That was also mostly people from IV, by the way. That time we hiked through some caves in the dark, which was pretty cool. They popped out above the crashing ocean waves, faintly lit in the moonlight. Its amazing that two of the most memorable times for me at Berkeley were just hanging out on the beach. I'll probably try to get a group together to go at the end of this Spring semester for one last time.
