1.3 Finding Temporary Housing (or Shelter) in Berkeley
It is essential that you know where you will be (temporarily) staying after your first arrive at Berkeley in order that you can take some rest, do housing searching, and run other errands. One possibility of temporary housing is hotel. There are hotels around the campus. One of them is Durant Hotel on 2600 Durant Street (tel. 510.845.8981). This place is basically next to the campus and close to major buildings where you will most likely have to visit during your first week. Another possibility is to find some friends or ask for Thai students here for help. Thai students here are generally generous to newcomers and, if they have, they will provide you a place to temporarily stay in while you are searching for a more permanent living place and run errands. It is also a good thing to get to know people here as soon as you can so that you can adapt to this place quickly. To get more info on housing, please refer to the Housing section under Setting Down section.
