Newspapers
Local Newspapers are San Franscisco Chronicle, San Francisco Examiner (afternoon), Oakland Tribune. The Chronicle and the Examiner are good in issues on diversity. The Tribune is interesting if you want to learn more about Oakland's economic and social issues, specifically on community development, social welfare, and crime prevention. Sunday editions normally come with many interesting articles and many saving coupons. Free Newspapers are SF Weekly, The Guardian, Berkeley Daily Planet. The free daily student newspaper of UC Berkeley is the Daily Californian. The most famous with arguably the best quality newspaper in the US is The New Your Times. All newspapers also offer free online websites. For example,
You may get a free copy of many US-Based Thai newspapers at the Thai supermarkets, or you may buy Thai Newspapers which cost you around $1. Alternatively, you can read Thai Newspapers on their websites. The notable ones are
Magazines
Subscriptions to magazines in this country are extremely cheap compared to buying them in retail at the stores. I would recommend at least one subscription to a magazine in order to keep up with the news and world events. Too many subscriptions can result in a waste of money because you end up not having enough time to read all of them. As much as you would like to read lots of magazines, time becomes a factor since the academic workload can be demanding. Visit Magazineline at www.magazineline.com (1800-748-0039) or pick up fliers that will be given out in most bookstores. The magazines I recommend are Time, Newsweek, US News and The Economist. The lighter and more entertaining ones are Maxim, FHM, Stuff, Sports Illustrated, Vogue, Elle and Cosmopolitan. Check the website to see which magazines you want to subscribe to. There are really a variety of choices. Make sure you change the mailing address as you move to a new place to avoid deliveries to the old place.
